Fishing!

Scouts and adults from Pack 70 had a great time fishing at Indian Lake on a recent Saturday morning.  While not everyone caught a fish, everyone had fun and learned a lot about this popular past time. Special thanks to Akelas Ben and Stephen for organizing this fun event.

Recent Photos

Thank you to the Grafton St. Stop & Shop and the Scouts who participated in the flag sale fundraiser. We saw a great deal of community support for this patriotic endeavor.

Akela Pete put together bird feeder kits for the Wolves and toolbox kits for the Bears.
These were a great way for Scouts to meet requirements about safely using tools. Thank you again Akela Pete!

Whittling!

After spending the previous meeting reviewing pocketknife safety, Scouts in the Bear and Arrow of Light dens spent the last meeting whittling. Using "knives" made out of popsicle sticks (and one Cub Scout pocketknife) the boys did a great job carving canoes out of soap.

If you'd like to try this at home, check out this link: http://www.instructables.com/id/Soap-Carving-Canoe/

Go here for more information about knife safety and the Whittling Chip award: http://www.boyscouttrail.com/content/award/whittling_chip-434.asp

Best of all, we never needed to open the First Aid kit.

Derby and Campout Fun

We hope everyone had a great time at our annual Pinewood Derby and overnight camp-out at the West Lodge of Treasure Valley. While the weather wasn't great for outdoor activities, the Scouts did "enjoy" a brisk jaunt through the still surprising deep snow. Indoor activities included making race pennants, a Nerf gun rifle range, practicing first aid with band-aids, making a stretcher out of a blanket & poles, constructing kites, a campfire performance with skits and open mic jokes plus, of course, S'Mores.

A special thank you goes out to all the adults for helping keeping the weekend safe and enjoyable. If anyone has any pictures they'd like to share on the blog, please send them to worcesterpack70@gmail.com.

Cub Scout Cabin Camping Checklist and Safety Guidelines

In preparation for our upcoming camping trip, below you'll find a list of recommended items Scouts and their adults should bring if they're staying overnight. Please note there's a distinct possibility of wet days and cold nights, so be prepared! Following this list there are also important rules and safety guidelines all adults should be aware of.

Sweater/sweatshirt
Poncho or raincoat
Warm jacket
Hat or cap
Gloves
Pants
Underwear
Pajamas or sweatshirt & sweatpants for sleeping
Lots of extra socks

Important reminders for guardians
This is family camping so you should plan to be participating with your Scout all weekend. We will need help from parents setting up or cleaning up after various events, but otherwise you should be near your Scout at all times. If a Scout decides not to be involved in one of the events, he must be under his adult's supervision the entire time instead.

We will be practicing two-deep youth protection at all times. That means there must always be more than one adult with any group of Scouts. Furthermore, unless it is between you and your child, there must never be any one-on-one contact between an adult and any other youth.

Smoking is prohibited within and directly outside the Lodge. We ask that you go to the parking lot to smoke knowing that, at times, you may need to bring your Scout with you.

If there's one thing boys love to play with it's sticks. For obvious safety reasons this is not allowed. Any Scout playing with a stick will be reprimanded and his family may be asked to leave if there are repeat offenses.

We want everyone to have a safe and fun experience. If anyone violates basic safety guidelines like staying off the ice/out of the water, playing with fire, using a knife outside the designated area or bringing a proscribed item, we may have to ask that family to leave. We're confident it won't come to that, of course, just be aware that we have everyone's safety in mind.

Please contact any leader if you have any questions.
